Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science
Denison University invites applications for a tenure track position in Mathematics and Computer Science, to begin in August, 2010. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in both fields. The department is currently home to 4 computer scientists and 6 mathematicians; collaboration between members of the two fields is one of our strongest assets. The ideal candidate for this position will have an interdisciplinary perspective and contribute to teaching and research in both disciplines. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses in both Mathematics and Computer Science to undergraduates in a liberal arts setting, supervise undergraduate research, maintain a strong scientific research program, and contribute in other ways to the department and college. Dance (African/Jazz) at Denison University
Denison University seeks an energetic artist/ scholar whose work stems from an Afro-centric perspective to join a vibrant dance program at a private liberal arts college as Assistant Professor. The dance department is part of a rich and varied Fine and Performing arts Division that houses an arts and technology lab with state of the art computer technology. The Dance Department is an independently housed department offering a major and minor. We have two full-time and two part-time faculty members and one resident musician. This faculty position will have teaching responsibilities in any form that ranges across the African Diaspora (traditional or contemporary African, African-American jazz, Afro-Brazilian, Afro-Caribbean, etc.) and will include theory courses in area(s) of expertise for the academic year (Mid-August through mid-May). Teaching one or more courses in theory within a range of possibilities (listed below) is required; we invite applicants to identify the courses they are qualified to teach. Full-time contract likely will require a two-theory course commitment/ability covering both semesters, while three-quarter time demands only one theory course in the spring semester. The successful candidate will be able to teach three levels of technique and create or reconstruct choreographic work for performance. Adjunct Visiting Instructor of Graduate Teacher Education at Oberlin College
The Graduate Teacher Education Program at Oberlin College invites applications for a part-time, non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one summer session, beginning June 22, 2009 and ending July 17, 2009, and will carry the rank of Adjunct Visiting Instructor. The incumbent will teach one course in the general area of special needs and working with diverse learners. Working title and course description follow: Special Needs and Multiple Ways of Knowing (3 credits) This course will focus on the different ways students learn and perform and how those differences affect how teachers must think about and organize for teaching. Major topics for study will include: the connection between the latest findings in brain research concerning students' learning styles or preferences and classroom practice, differentiated instruction, multiple intelligences, gender differences, children's social interactions, and cultural expectations and styles (including parental expectations and the influence of family). Students will also get an overview of exceptionalities they may encounter among students, examine a range of legislation dealing with special needs, and explore institutional practices for accommodating students with exceptionalities. Among the qualifications required for appointment is the masters' degree or beyond. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in graduate teaching. Successful working experience with special needs students in a multicultural school system is desirable. The Oberlin College Graduate Teacher Education Program (GTEP) is an exciting new one-year graduate program that begins in June and leads to a Master of Education degree and eligibility for initial teaching licensure in early or middle childhood. The purpose of GTEP is to help graduate students develop into knowledgeable, creative, and successful beginning educational leaders who are capable of and committed to: 1) helping all children succeed in schools, 2) engaging in ongoing self-reflection and inquiry, and 3) working toward constructive change in society. Physics/Astronomy

The Denison
University Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a
tenure track assistant professor preferably starting Fall, 2010, although
a later start may be considered under exceptional circumstances. Ph.D. required.
We are seeking candidates vitally interested in teaching physics at both the
beginning and advanced levels including laboratory-based courses. The successful
applicant is expected to carry out active research with the involvement of
undergraduates. Substantial start-up funds for research will be available,
and Denison supports generous professional and family leave programs. The
department consists of six faculty, a technical assistant, and a secretary.
Facilities include excellent equipment for both teaching and research, first
class on-site experimental labs, a link to the Ohio Supercomputer, an observatory,

Center
for the Study of American Democracy Post-doctoral Fellowship at Kenyon College
Kenyon College is seeking applications for the Center for the Study of American
Democracy Post-doctoral Fellowship. This new post-doctoral program creates
a one-year teaching fellowship in the Department of Political Science that
would be renewable for a second year (2009-2010 with potential to renew
for 2010-2011). The program seeks to attract recent recipients of doctoral
degrees whose research focus is in Political Science, History, Sociology,
American Studies, or other fields related to American Democracy. Candidates
should possess a PhD in Political Science, History, Sociology, American
Studies or a related field from an accredited university prior to the commencement
of the fellowship. Responsibilities include teaching one (1) course each
semester and some program administration duties. The course to be taught
is the introductory political science class Quest for Justice, which introduces
students to politics by reading primary works drawn from multiple disciplines
and raising fundamental political questions. The fellow will be associated
with the new Center for the Study of American Democracy. Every other spring,
the Center will host a major conference on a fundamental topic of American
Democracy, and the fellow will be involved in the planning of the conference
and will work with the director editing a volume of papers coming out of

Archaeology
at Kenyon College
Kenyon College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Archaeology. This position involves working closely with undergraduates on the Kenyon-Honduras Program, an off-campus semester of study in Latin American archaeology, cultural anthropology and history. The successful candidate will accompany the directors for that spring's program and teach 1 course. In addition to salary, all living and transportation costs will be paid by the program. The successful candidate would then teach full-time for the academic year of 2010-11. The teaching load would include one or two follow-up courses during Fall (depending on program enrollments) 2010 in which s/he would help the Kenyon-Honduras participants describe, analyze, and write-up the results of their field work; two introductory archaeology courses; and one or two upper level courses in New World archaeology and the candidate's specialty, for a maximum of five courses. Minimum Qualifications: The area of specialization is Latin American archaeology, with a preference for a specialist in Mesoamerica. A Ph.D. is preferred; ABD will be considered.
