"New Models for Scholarly Communication:OhioLINK and Local Campus Implications"
May 29, 2008 at Kenyon College
The Reference & Instruction Committee of the Five Colleges of Ohio has the pleasure to announce the workshop: "New Models for Scholarly Communication: OhioLINK and Local Campus Implications." The program will focus on the development of electronic and open access media serving as vehicles for scholars to share their research with colleagues around the world. With OhioLINK having launched its institutional repository platform as part of its Digital Resource Commons (DRC) that is available to all member libraries, faculty staff at all OhioLINK member institutions now have the potential to add scholarly work to the DRC. OhioLINK plans an open access publishing component to join the institutional repository.
Karen A. Williams, Associate University Librarian for Academic Programs, University of Minnesota, will deliver the keynote address about the national implications of institutional repositories and open access forums for scholarly communication. Ms. Williams serves as a prominent advocate for this new media. She recently participated as a faculty member in the recent Institutes for Scholarly Communication co-sponsored by ARL and ACRL. She will also facilitate a strategic brainstorming session to consider ways to communicate the new forms of scholarly communication on our local campuses.
A representative from OhioLINK will discuss the development of the DRC and how member institutions can tap into its resources.
It is highly recommended that participants read the following two articles in advance of the workshop. In addition, if two or more librarians are planning to attend from the same institution, then it is recommended that they meet and discuss the content of the articles and how it relates to their campus prior to the workshop:
