Diversity Deans Invite Participation in Chauvin Verdict Response Room

Posted on April 16, 2021

The late afternoon Zoom room provides students, faculty, and staff with a common space to process the trial's verdict, anticipated in the coming week.

The Five Colleges of Ohio invites members of its colleges communities to a “pop-up” event, planned and organized by Diversity Deans and Officers, in collaboration with our institutions’ Student Affairs staff, to gather students, faculty, and staff to process/support one another in response to the results of the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd.

The event will feature three breakout rooms: one “main room” that will remain open for the duration of the event to welcome anyone who wants to stay in that space, another to discuss Historical Context and Activism, and a third group focusing on Healing and Self-Care.

“The Ohio Five Diversity Deans and Officers, as well as some of our Student Affairs staff, agreed that it would be helpful for us to gather as a consortium to provide support to our communities in relation to the Chauvin trial and to the persistence of racial violence at this time,” said Dr. Ivonne M. García, Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at The College of Wooster, one of the members of the organizing team.

This will be a Zoom event, to be held from 4-6 p.m. on the day following the verdict, which is expected in the next week. Participants can register with the link below, and registrants will receive a Zoom calendar invitation with more details.
