Registration Open for June 2 Publishing Pop-Up

Posted on May 17, 2021

Ohio Five Library and Academic Committees invite registrations to pop-up workshop on Wednesday, June 2, from 10am - noon on authors' rights in the scholarly publishing process.

In the heady rush to disseminate your research and publish, contract language might be a hurried consideration. Do not give away more of your rights than you need to. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if a publisher has your best interests at heart. We can help you navigate the publisher landscape and explore other options for dissemination of your scholarship, such as your local institutional repositories and other open access options. This workshop, facilitated by copyright expert Carla Myers, Coordinator of Scholarly Communication at Miami University, will help you navigate and understand your rights and offer suggestions for negotiating with publishers. Ohio Five Librarians will also share links to local Library Guides and other resources.

This workshop is especially suited to faculty members, librarians and staff who have responsibilities and interest in publishing. Attendance is limited to 45 participants from the Ohio Five colleges. Participants who attend the full session will receive a $50 stipend made possible by a grant from the Five Colleges of Ohio Collaborative Grants Program. To register, please complete this registration form by Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Participants will receive a Zoom link and further instructions about the workshop with their confirmation.

Additional information will be coming soon on a second summer pop-up workshop on Thursday, August 12, 2021 (time TBD) with historian and digital humanist Jessica Marie Johnson (Johns Hopkins University and Hutchinson Center for African and African American Research at Harvard University) on bringing a critical lens to using digital resources in the classroom.
