The Five Colleges of Ohio announced the appointment of Susana Velazquez as its Program and Budget Manager, beginning July 1. Velazquez will manage the Ohio Five’s financial activities and budget reporting from the organization’s offices at Oberlin College. In addition, she will coordinate Ohio Five meetings, manage the organization’s online presence, and act as program officer for several Ohio Five grants. Velazquez replaces Carol Temerson, who was recently appointed senior director of finance and administration at the University of Virginia.
“We’re very pleased to bring Susana Velazquez to the Ohio Five as a lead staff member in finance and program planning,” commented executive director Sarah Stone. “Her extensive work in program development and evaluation, as well as her background and training in financial management and reporting will be a significant asset to our organization.”
Velazquez comes to the Ohio Five after serving for six years as staff accountant at North Cost Wireless Communications, where she supervised all financial activities for the regional internet service provider. She was also Deputy Chief of Customer Service and Performance Management at Cuyahoga County Child Welfare Services and a senior program officer at the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services, where she led a significant software integration program and related agency training and implemented an agency-wide contract performance program. Velazquez holds a master’s degree in Public Policy Analysis from the University of Rochester, where she also received a B.S. in Health and Society. She will receive an associate’s degree in Applied Accounting from Lorain County Community College in December 2018. A resident of Oberlin, Velazquez is active in community organizations and early in her career served as a program coordinator for the Hispanic Community Forum in Cleveland.
