Install the Sierra Desktop Application

Click or copy the following URL into your browser: https://consort.library.denison.edu/web/installers

You will see links to download Sierra for MacOSX, Windows, and Linux. Click on the download link for the appropriate operating system. If you receive a security warning at this point, just accept or click through to proceed.

 

Instructions for Windows:

  • Once downloaded, open the install.exe file to open the installer. If prompted to allow the program to “make changes to this computer”, click Yes. Or, if you receive a message indicating the "publisher could not be verified", click Run.

  • In the installer wizard, click Next to advance to the Choose Install Folder option.

  • You will see a box labeled “Where Would You Like to Install Sierra Desktop App?”. You want to install this into a folder called Sierra Desktop App.

    • If that’s not the folder listed here, then push the installer to the side for a moment and navigate to Desktop > Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Program Files (x86) on your desktop. Create a new folder inside the Program Files (x86) folder called Sierra Desktop App. Then go back to the installer, click Choose, and select this new folder you just created.

  • Click Next.

  • When asked where you would like to create a shortcut, select On the Desktop and click Next.

  • You will be prompted to enter the Server domain name/IP address. Enter consort.library.denison.edu and click Next.

  • Click Install.

  • When the install completes, you may see a message stating that there were some errors during the installation. This is normal. Click Done.

  • Sierra will launch on its own.

 

Instructions for Mac:

  • Once downloaded, click on the install.zip file to expand it and then click on the install.app file to open the installer.
  • NOTE: If you receive an error message that says "install.app" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash., go to your System Preferences and click through Security & Privacy > Allow apps downloaded from, and change that setting to Anywhere. You will need to click the      Lock at the bottom of the window and enter your system password to allow that change. Once changed, close the window and double-click on the install.app file again.
  • In the installer wizard, click Next to advance to the Choose Install Folder option.

  • You will see a box labeled “Where Would You Like to Install Sierra Desktop App?”. Click Choose and select your Applications folder. Then click Next.

  • When prompted for where you would like to create aliases (shortcuts), choose where you would like your shortcut created and click Next.

  • You will be prompted to enter the Server domain name/IP address. Enter consort.library.denison.edu and click Next.

  • Click Install.

  • When the install completes, you will see a message stating that there were some errors during the installation. This is normal. Click Done.

  • Sierra will launch on its own.
