The Ohio State University and the Five Colleges of Ohio, Inc. co-sponsored 26 paid summer research internships in biochemistry, chemistry, mathematics, microbiology, physics, public health, statistics and material science through the 2023 Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program. The SURE program offers students at Denison University, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, and The College of Wooster the opportunity to gain experience as student research employees working in the labs of OSU faculty members.
This 10-week internship program concluded at the end of July with a capstone event, where students presented their research to OSU faculty, as well as faculty and deans from their home institutions.
"The SURE Program challenges students from leading liberal arts institutions to immerse themselves in a rigorous R1 research experience," said OH5 Executive Director Lindsey Interlante. "This cohort performed at a very high level, pursuing rigorous research, effectively communicating their findings, and exploring possible graduate school and career pathways."
The Ohio 5-SURE program is supported by the Five Colleges of Ohio, Inc., the OSU Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Public Health, and the OSU Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics, and Statistics, with additional support provided by CARE/IMR through a grant from Intel.
